Welcome to the vibrant and evolving neighbourhood of the Upper Beaches, nestled in the heart of Toronto. This neighbourhood, directly north of the iconic Beaches area, spans from Coxwell Avenue in the west to Victoria Park in the east, with Kingston Road marking its southern border. The northern boundary is defined by the Canadian National Railway tracks between Gerrard Street and Danforth Avenue. Known for its rich history and dynamic atmosphere, the Upper Beaches offers a unique blend of urban living and natural beauty.

In the early 2000s, developers coined “Upper Beaches” for redeveloped land, creating a distinct identity. Formerly Norway in East Toronto, this historically rich neighbourhood dates back to the 1800s, featuring a toll station, sawmill, and inns like The Norway House Hotel. St. John’s Norway Cemetery (1853) and St. John’s Church, Berkeley (1850), preserve historical roots. Midway, was an open land, in hosted the Toronto Golf Club in the late 1800s. The club moved, leading to Kelvin Park’s development by the Robin’s Group. The 1909 Toronto Civic Railways line connected the Upper Beaches to East Toronto and Greenwood.

Today, the Upper Beaches is a thriving residential hub with a mix of housing options. The Town of East Toronto’s residential heart and former industrial sites along the rail line have transformed into vibrant communities. The neighbourhood boasts excellent educational institutions, with Malvern Collegiate Institute earning accolades for its outstanding English and Theatre programs.

For those who love to shop, the Upper Beaches offers a diverse range of retail options, from local boutiques to well-established stores. Residents can explore the unique charm of the Woodbine Corridor, with its distinct character and city-designated buildings along Danforth Avenue.

When it comes to things to do and events, the Upper Beaches has a lively cultural scene. Whether it’s attending performances at renowned theatres or participating in community events, there’s always something happening in this dynamic neighbourhood.

Transportation in the Upper Beaches is convenient, with Main Street station serving as a stop for the TTC Bloor-Danforth subway line and the eastern terminus for the TTC streetcar line, providing easy access to the city’s public transit network.

In summary, the Upper Beaches is more than just a neighbourhood; it’s a tapestry of history, culture, and modern living. With its diverse offerings, this area is a perfect place to call home, where the past meets the present in a harmonious blend of urban vitality and community charm.
